What is SSi?

SSi sells internet access. But calling SSi an ISP would be like calling a four-karat cut diamond a shard of rock. SSi connects some of the most remote communities in the world to the wonders and horrors of the internet. We bounce packets off of satellites (satellites in space!). We route, shape, and accelerate internet traffic all over Northern Canada (seriously north -- think "arctic"). We create cutting-edge software that leverages our unique wireless network that help to bring our remotely-located customers closer to the rest of the world. We provide them with features services that blow their minds. We're sharper than "cutting edge" and proud of it.

Who is SSi?

SSi is a small-ish group of amazing people and a few dogs (our office is pooch-friendly). We're fun. We write software, we drink coffee, we bounce ideas around like Shaq dribbles. Sometimes we're smart, sometimes we're dumb, and we're usually pretty humble either way. New ideas are encouraged here, never buried.

Where is SSi?

SSi is in Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest Territories. Yellowknife is the perfect intersection of "big city" and "small town". At 23,000 people, you can walk down the street at 3:00 AM without getting mugged, and you're always a five-minute drive from a gorgeous lake. But being the largest city in Canada's north, Yellowknife also has all the big city perks: a thriving music and art scene, 24-hour shopping (a little limited after 10:00 PM), and all the amenities you could want. Yellowknife is a unique and excellent city that has something to offer everyone.

Why SSi?

We've got an open office that is friendly and inviting. You want perks? We've got perks. We've got a television bigger than most European cars. Need to vent? Challenge a co-worker to a game of NHL '10 or lose your paycheck to the sharks around our full-size pool table. Need to wallow in self-pity or just forget your woes? Our beer fridge stands on guard for thee at all hours. SSi feels like a startup--small, dynamic, fast--but we're well-funded and we have a tonne of paying customers. Who is SSi looking for?

We want to hire super-smart software developers. Not programmers, developers. We need people who are as comfortable designing and planning software as they are coding. We're not that interested in too many buzzwords (XML! Enterprise!). Every day we use a variety of technologies, so we are interested in experienced, smart people that love to create clever software. We want to hire people who are not just able to jump into unfamiliar territory, but people who love making that leap.
