March 2004 – A busy winter season is in full swing with lots of activity at both the airport and the floatbase. Spring is becoming more and more present with each days end. We now have longer days to complete all of our ice strip flying. Everyone is anticipating the arrival of summer, as it promises to be another very busy one for the Tindi family.

Our newest DASH, C-FWZV, arrived on February 21 late in the evening, after a nine hour ferry flight from North Bay, Ontario. There it had just completed an extensive four month complete maintenance overhaul. This included a beautiful new paint job identical to its sister aircraft (C-GCEV). After its arrival in Yellowknife it was put straight to work and has been busy since then. With two of these very versatile and reliable aircraft now in the fleet, Air Tindi is now a truly Canada wide charter company! The DASH 7 Combi is a 46 passenger or 10000 Ib cargo hauler and comes equipped with a large 91"W x 70"H cargo door and roller floor with palletized loading system. The only thing not large about these aircraft, are the runways from which they can operate. Runways as short as 2500 feet, built of gravel or ice, will see fully loaded DASH 7’s land and takeoff without restrictions. Please visit Our Fleet for more information.
Also new at Air Tindi is our big 18,000 square foot hanger, completed last December and home for
our two DASH 7 Combi’s. Measuring 41 feet high at the peak and has a door that measures 30 x 120
feet. This is Air Tindi’s largest building and one of the biggest aircraft hangers in the North.
This hanger can easily house the two DASH 7’s and several other smaller aircraft at the same time when needed.

Our modern three story flight operations and administration centre is located at the floatbase located in Old Town Yellowknife on Latham Island. Also new this year is Aqsaqniq Airways, a new Inuit / Air Tindi Joint venture airline formed to better serve our clients in Nunavut. Based in Yellowknife, NT and Taloyoak, NU, the name Aqsaqniq was chosen because of its meaning "Northern Lights" in the inuktitut language. Aqsaqniq Airways joins Tli Cho Air and Air Tindi as truly, The New Northern Spirits in the Sky! Air Tindi would like to thank all of our loyal friends, customers and staff for a continuing great winter season, and remember when you hear something overhead, look up, and keep your eyes open for the newest burgundy tails!
We hope this finds you all safe and well, and whether you live in the ’knife or are just coming for a visit, we’d love to see you, so be sure and drop in for a coffee here at the Old Town float base. |
