The bowling lanes in Yellowknife were packed and rocking, as the NWT 5 pin Bowlers’ Association conducted it’s major fundraising effort on behalf of the Kids Help Phone.  An annual event, the bowlathon gives many people who don’t bowl often an opportunity to come out, have some fun and contribute to a worthy cause. Bowlers of all ages and abilities turned out and had a fun time "glow bowling".

Bill Cuthbert, President, Canadian 5 Pin Bowlers' Association represented the Kids Help Phone at the bowlathon and made presentations to the Yellowknife Elk's Lodge and the NWT5PBA for their contributions over the past ten years.  In those ten years the Elks have contributed nearly $200,000 and the NWT5PBA has raised in excess of $500,000.  A mean feat for a small population in two northern communities.  Bowlers in the NWT regularly raise either the highest or second highest amount in the country and only occasionally lose out to Ontario where they have a slightly larger population on which to draw.  This year's effort netted in the area of $52,000.

Many sponsors contributed prizes for those who collected the greatest amount, bowled the best, bowled the least, bowled a "hidden score" or were just there to claim the door prizes. Marcel Bouchard, manager of the Polar Bowl, graciously provided a substantial reduction in lineage fees. Some even bowled better in the dark....... BHP Biliton and the NWT Housing Corporation provided generous contributions of $1,500 - greatly appreciated.  Top pledge collectors were Gary BLack ($5,135), Mike Haener ($2,255) and Tony Sunderland.

On behalf of the Kids Help Phone, the NWT5PBA offers sincere appreciation to the hundreds of people who made our fundraising efforts a success again this year. Thanks also to Lynell Broadbent and her workers who ran the bowlathon and to those who ran and worked at the bingoes.

A good time was had by all...........

On behalf of the Kids Help Phone the NWT5PBA offers sincere appreciation to the hundreds of people who made our fundraising efforts a success again this year.
