On January 6-1994, Myself and a friend were out checking his trapline approx. 20 miles south of the community of Ft. Resolution N.W.T. in the area known as Hanbury Creek. We had completed the trapline check and we were getting ready to return to Ft. Resolution. We were turning the snowmobile around to head back to the highway, when the transmission jammed in reverse and after trying unsuccessfully to free the jammed transmision, we beagn to realize we were faced with a lengthy walk back to the highway where we had left our vehicles. We grabbed our lunch and coffee and beagn the walk back to the highway. At approx 18:00 we stopped in a large clearing to rest and have lunch. We located a large tree and sat down to enjoy our lunch. The weather at the time was cool, approx - 10 with light snow falling. We had been there about ten minutes and we were just getting ready to begin walking again when we heard a low hum coming from the east of our location. We did not see anything unusual, but sat quietly to try and identify the sound. We thought perhaps there was somebody else on a snowmobile in the area as several other trappers had traplines in the area, and we were hoping to catch a ride back to the highway and save ourselves some walking. The humming grew louder and deeper. My friend and I discussed several theories as to what it might be, trucks travelling on the highway, some sort of deisel generator, we could not identify what it might be. I was reminded of a very large, very powerful engine, although it did not sound like a conventional engine. It was more of a deep throbbing sound, with the sound fluctuating up and down, but not dying completely. We began to realize that the sound was coming from above us. The throbbing grew louder and louder until it seemed to be directly over us. We still did not see anything. Suddenly, there was a bright flash, such as a thousand flashbulbs all going off at one time. The entire area was lit as brightly as if it were daytime, and we could clearly see across the clearing (which was approx. 500 metres across) The throbbing sound was very loud and the entire area seemed alive with electricity. Abruptly, there was another flash, and again the area was brightly lit again. I looked over at my friend and I think we had both decided to vacate the area at the same time. There was a third flash which made up our minds for us and we stood up to get moving. The sound was moving from east to west and moving very slowly. As we stood there the sound began to fade and move away. I estimated that from the time we first heard the sound until it finally faded away was approx. 15 minutes. At no point did we ever see anything solid, just the incredible low throbbing noise and the bright flashes. we continued walking and reached the highway 5 hours later.

Hi there,

It is great to see someone in the NWT keeping a decent record of the unexplained lights and objects seen in our skies.

In April of 1996 I was living in Yellowknife working at Con mine. I left for work at around 6:40am one morning and noticed what looked like a big black-greenish cigar shaped object hanging in the sky over the Great Slave Lake. I kept an eye on this enormous object while driving the 1.5km to work, which brought me closer and closer to the object as the mone was located just off the Great Slave lake. The entire time I was watching it the object never even moved. I arrived at work and was met by my supervisor in the parking lot at which time i pointed out the object which was still in the same spot not moving and no sound could be heard coming from it. We headed up to the dry (changing area) and got into out work clothes for the day. When we exited the dry and headed down a slope to the assay lab the object was exactly in the same place as before. We joked about it being a UFO and sort of laughed it off figuring it was some sort of secret military craft being tested in the colder climate of Canada's north. We went into the lab and had a coffee to gear up for work and the next time I went outside to check on the object, appoximately 5 minutes later, it was gone. Later that week the Yellowknifer had a story about all the strange things people in the area had seen in the skies that week. I didn't share my story with them as it is a small town and I didn't want to be bothered by skeptics about it.

So when are you going to rename the page "UFO Phenomena in Bob, Canada?" I think doing so before The Man realizes that the new name of the NWT should be Bob would be a big boost to the Bob cause!

I found the Canadian Forces video interesting, but there is nothing in the video to use as a point of reference. It looks suspiciously like the effect one might get pointing a video camera at the planet Venus. I detected no movement other than that of the camera operator and his unsteady hands. The flickering could have been caused by atmospheric turbulence making it appear bright for a moment and then dim, the effect often happens when objects are close or near the horizon. The planet Venus accounts for a majority of UFO sightings, and going by what little information can be gathered from the video, I think It would be safe to conclude that we are seeing a zoomed in bouncy video of that planet.
Thanks

Hello I found you site through the homepage directory (www.home.aone.net.au/jcbeck) which as you know are privliged to be on because most people that have net access around Australia use at least a couple of times a week. So after surfing from the hompage directory to you site I found some of the info was like what I had experianced, have you herd of Ball lightening if you have please sond as much info as you can gather for me because i saw it once on an aeroplane. Also i saw what I belive to be a UFO over South Australia a few years back now, it was in the middle of the country i was doing an 8 hour trip and out of nowhere a very bright light appeared and i looked to see if there were any wheat silos around but there were none so i looked to see if there was any buildings but the place was empty so I booted my $295,000 BMW to get the hell out of there but after reaching a speed ixs of 220kph i noticed on this extreamly long flat road i was not getting away from this light source. I slowed right down and stopped then kept moving at around 100kph after 15 full minutes or so the light suddenly and i can not say suddenly loud or clear enough dissapeared, has this happened to anyone before? can you give me some info on this or ball lighteneing? if so Email it to the guy who runs the homepage directory because he looks after my email and will send it on to me thanks!!

I have encountered a blue streaking light twice now when driving on the highway at night, both times were close to my vehicle, the two occurances were about 2 years apart and one happened between yk and rae and the other one recently Jan 98 occured near buffalo junction,(fort smith turn-off). Has anyboy else reported seening a blue streaking object?

First Sighting,
Approx. Dec. 4 1995
Approx. 2100
Between YK and Fort Rae (driving toward YK)
Object was very close and streaked from the left side of the road to the right. All the snow and surrounding area lighted up blue and I saw what appeared to be almost a commet type tail. Kind of like sparkles coming off the back. It happened very fast and it really scared me so I did not stop to investigate further. It could have possibly been a meteor.

Second Sighting,
Approx. Jan. 5 1998
Approx. 1900
3 KM past Buffalo Junction traveling South toward Fort Smith
Object was farther away this time and no illumination of surrounding area was present but it did catch my attention and it appeared to slowly pulse twice as it moved accross the sky and then just faded to nothing.

Gee Blaine, maybe the northern lights?

(NOTE: I sent this guy a quick reply explaining how Northern Lights might account for some of the sightings, but definitely not all of them...)

Steve Robinson wrote on August 9, 1997:
Your website is very impressive! It is easy to maneuver through and view. Have you ever considered doing some sort of "vector analysis" on the sightings within your Province? By that I mean the following:

1. Marking the sightings on a map
2. From the witnesses, tracing a line in the direction that the object moved
3. From the witnesses (if available) estimating the speed of movement.

It would be very interesting to see the results, where all the objects are heading as well as how fast they are moving. To take it one step further: you may wish to obtain a "gravitational" or "magnetic" map of the area. These are usually available from geological societies. Superimpose the vectors on these maps and see the result.

I find it very interesting that not one of the UFO websites I have visited has ever done or mentioned this. It may turn up something, or it may turn up nothing. Just thought I'd give you something to think about.

This is a brief experience that I thought I should share with you. Yesterday upon our return from a weekend in Edmonton, my family and I arrived in Enterprise enroute to our home in Fort Providence. We left Enterprise, NWT after gassing up and coffee at about 8:30 PM. About thirty minutes later at approximately 9:00 PM, close to McNally Creek, we noticed a bluish-green light falling from the sky. We thought it was a falling star; usually falling stars last about 1-2 seconds, but this light fell approximately 4-5 seconds and disappeared just above the tree tops. I thought perhaps an explosion would follow up if it was a meteorite but nothing happened. Our second sighting happened about nine minutes later at 9:09 PM, this time the light was clear and above the tree top for about 2-3 seconds and disappeared again. By this time, we had our camera ready but nothing happened. The sky was clear and the northern lights were not usually radiant. We passed alot of other vehicles that probably noticed these lights which I feel were curious. All this happened Monday, March 31, 1997 in the Northwest Territories.

During the winter of 1996, I also witnessed an unidentified object in the skies over Kuujjuaq, Nunavik. There is no way one can convince me it wasn't a sighting. I was so excited and I wasn't alone. The Transport Canada flight station was also aware of something in the sky. We had contacted them to verify it wasn't a plane or helicopter.I will never forget it and keep my eyes open for more sightings always.

Hi, here's another piece of trivia I picked up on the net.

Century X-70
L'oeil par obiect fera telle excroissance,
Tant & ardante que tombera la neige:
Champ arrouse' viendra en decroissance,
Que le primat succombera a` Rege.

Through an object the eye will swell very much,
Burning so much that the snow will fall:
The fields watered will come to shrink,
As the primate succumbs at Reggio.

According to Brenda/Nostradamus (vol.I p193):
1) Some kind of atomic (electromagnetic?) device will affect the planetary climate, and will hurt people's eyes. (*3)

Gord's note: Phew! This seems right on the mark with regard to some of the stuff said about HAARP
2) The climate out of balance will then affect agriculture.
3) This will take place when the (next) pope dies at Rege (Italy). (*4)

oh great keeper of the really cool nwt page....we're frictional mission...a band from Georgia in the states that is known pretty much only in Prince Rupert B.C., and with this distinguished background, does it come as a surprise that we would find interesting anything strange in those lonely NWT skies...as well as helping the canadian bird people look for something called the eskimo curlew (georgia isn't even in its traditional flight path)
and again...
just read more of your awesome site...... we also saved it to disc so we could share it with others. good luck on the Ruskie research....

Just found your page via an online TV guide with the TV program "Sightings" listed. Very nice. I am constantly amazed at the number of sightings by you guys up north. Some day I'm going to come and visit and you're going to have to show some of these UFOs. Unfortunately I have yet to see one. I live down in Cape Town, South Africa, and it seems that the alien chappies are not as interested in us as they are in you. There have been one or two sightings here recently, but I wasn't in the right place to witness them.

an airplane pilot (I chose to leave his name out) wrote on April 28, 1996:
Regarding this sighting which I believe it is the one we saw on this date. We were flying a 727 A/C which was on descent into Yellowknife. At the time and we had just started our decent from 31000' approx 100 miles south of Yellowknife when we saw this meteorite it was north of us and was arcing in a course from north west to the south east which would have put it in the Snow drift area. What made this different was the amount of time we viewed this meteor we figured a good 5-10 seconds. All 3 of us in the cockpit saw this.We reported it to Yellowknife tower but never heard and more of this.It would have been about the same time as the other report for Jan 17 that I was reading about. It was either a meteor or a satellite burning up.It was a greenish colour with a small tail. Hope this explains this sighting.

I live in Inuvik, and my 2nd floor deck overlooks the town and the Mackenzie Delta. One night this past winter I was able to see a reflected (refracted?) image of Aklavik, which is nearly 100 km away, and which I usually cannot see, even when I know where to look with binoculars. This last time however, I was able to make out as many as *five* images of the town, "stacked" on top of each other, and every second one was inverted. I didn't see the town, actually, but the lights, since the sun was not up then. This has only happened about twice before in the past three years. Unfortunately, it did not go shooting up into the sky, but it was an interesting effect. The first time I saw it a few years ago, I thought it was a whole bunch of chartered aircraft on their way to Inuvik from Dawson, since they come over the Richardson Mountains around there, but I recognized the colors of the lights as being mostly sodium-vapor street lights.

...Anyone who believes that what people in the Northwest Territories are seeing is astronomical in nature is very wrong. I enjoy amateur astronomy. A star never twinkles in four of five distinct colors. You might see a blending of colors. Furthermore, I don't recall seeing red, blue, green, and yellow twinkling from a single star. Also, the light from planets shines steady. Perhaps as Venus nears the horizon it might twinkle a little but nothing like what was being described. As for the vertical nature of the movement, I have never seen a vertically moving meteorite. Of course, it is possible to see one. But on different nights by lots of different people, I don't think so.

Gordon Tibbles wrote on August 5, 1996:
What I suggest is that you keep an eye open for activities based around the HAARP program in Alaska. At the moment the system is shut down due to unexplained problems. However, when it is again activated, it will be interesting to see if observation of unexplained phenomenon occur.
